First Erdace residents getting settled into downtown complex

After much anticipation, Erdace Apartments in downtown Lake Charles is open and its first residents have moved in.

The massive project of building the Erdace complex began almost two and a half years ago, with groundbreaking in January 2018. Rain delays pushed the opening of the complex back a year (it was originally set to open in April 2019) and covid pushed the opening date another few months back.

The four-story complex at 600 Ryan Street includes 270 apartments in a mix of studios, one bedroom and two bedroom units.

“We’re excited to have this urban residential development here in downtown… to bring more residents back to downtown” said Colleen Phillips, Erdace’s senior property manager.

Erdace developers are hoping that the new complex and its residents will ultimately play a role in the ongoing efforts to revitalize downtown Lake Charles, and the company is eying future projects depending on the success of this one.

Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter said he looks forward to the positive impact Erdace should have on downtown Lake Charles. “This is going to be a major game changer for downtown Lake Charles,” Mayor Hunter had previously told KPLCTV in an interview at the start of the project.

Erdace was built on a 3.5 acre tract of land purchased from the City of Lake Charles in 2013. The site was previously home to the giant Sears & Roebuck store.

Phillips explained that many of the new residents of Erdace are coming from out of state for jobs and opportunities offered in the greater Lake Charles area.

Prices on the apartments range from $1,195 a month for a 556-square foot studio to $1,490 monthly for a 1,048 square foot two-bedroom unit. Erdace was a $43 million project and features balconies in every unit, a private parking deck, a gym, lounge area and a swimming pool.
